"Arctic Connections": RSGS Young Geographer Team Visit Government Policy Launch
Through working with the Royal Scottish Geographical Society, I was tasked with travelling to Stromness in Orkney where the Scottish Government were hosting a day of talks and workshops to coincide with the release of their new 'Arctic Connections' policy.
Whilst there, I was able to interview Cabinet Secretary Fiona Hyslop MSP, leader of the Orkney Islands Council James Stockan and many other fascinating people from the expedition leader of the Arctic Return expedition to the managing director of the Polar Research and Policy Initiative.
The message from the day was, on the whole, very progressive and demonstrated that the government were really committed to giving as much agency as possible to rural communities in Scotland and the Arctic to promote shared learning.
