THE TRACK
For fans of the emerging genre of electronic traditional folk, music producer Cameron Mackay offers a fresh house-influenced take with his latest single Second Wind, released on Friday 22nd March.
Bringing together his two loves of playing for cèilidhs and producing electronic dance music, in Second Wind Cameron merges an original fiddle tune with an array of synths and piano samples, all on top of a bouncy house beat. The track was mastered by Sam Welch Music Production.
Cameron’s previous releases have been featured by BBC Introducing and the music video for his debut EP “Frozen River” was screened at film festivals including winning Best Instrumental Music Video at India’s Malabar Music Festival.
THE MUSIC VIDEO
Also working as a filmmaker, Cameron wanted to showcase nature in the self-filmed music video for Second Wind, even if it did involve lugging his fiddle, camera equipment and drone through forests and bogs to the summit of Cruach Tairbeirt in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park! It has been featured as part of the 2024 HB Film Festival programme.
Cameron says: “The fiddle tune and production of Second Wind was inspired by exploring wild places in Scotland like the West Sands beach in St Andrews and forests in Loch Lomond, so it was lovely for this to come across in the video and incredible artwork by Sophy Louise”.
THE SINGLE ARTWORK
The original artwork for the single was created by illustrator and storymaker Sophy Louise. Sophy says: “We have such gorgeous landscapes in Scotland which I love to celebrate in my work. Having that connection to nature really brings it back to how the music makes you feel which is what ended up being the focus of the Second Wind artwork”.
